What is an Allwin slot machine?

Vintage Allwin slot machines, sometimes called coin repeat wall machines, were a precursor to the pinball machines of today. At a basic level players place a coin in the slot, sit tight for a ball bearing to be release and attempt to get it into a cup or receptacle with the aid of a spring. Even though the game appears quite simple, skill and know-how are definitely needed. Classic multiple column Allwins, such as 'What's My Line', 'Many Happy Returns' and 'The Fill 'Em Up' were more complex because players had to fill up a column in full to make any winnings. With many drop case slot machines, like 'The Smithy' and 'The Cascade', ball bearings were removed and instead the actual coin entered by each player would be propelled around the machine to deliver the winnings in the payout chute. Other variants of of Allwin slot machine include 'Playball', 'The Flyer', 'Lucky Star', 'Cresta Run', 'Lucky Circle' and 'Little Mickey', which were created by B.M.Co in the 1930s.
